What it is
A high-bay cold store uses very tall racking β often 20 metres or more β combined with automated cranes or shuttles to move pallets in and out. Instead of spreading out over a large floor area, the building grows upward.
Why it is popular
- More capacity in less space β ideal where land is scarce or costly
- Lower labour cost β automated handling replaces manual picking
- Better temperature control β less door opening, more stable conditions
- Higher throughput β faster, more accurate pallet movement
What it demands from the panels
A high-bay warehouse is unforgiving. The envelope must be:
- Structurally strong enough for tall walls and roofs
- Precisely profiled for airtight joints over long spans
- Fire-rated β PIR or rockwool cores are common
- Engineered for accurate temperature zoning at different heights
When you need one
High-bay cold storage makes sense when you handle high pallet volumes, face high land costs, and want to reduce manual labour. For smaller operations a conventional cold store is usually more economical.
We deliver panels engineered specifically for high-bay projects β tell us your racking height and layout.
